李月莲教授在香港中文大学毕业,取得社会科学新闻及传播学士学位(甲等荣誉),以及传播学硕士学位。她在加拿大英属哥伦比亚大学取得教育学系博士学位。
李教授在香港传媒有丰富工作经验。她曾分别在《明报晚报》及《经济日报》担任记者及编辑。 她也曾为政府文化部门及商业机构出任杂志编辑,以及任职亚洲电视。 李教授曾在中文大学处理传媒关系的工作。
自2000年起,李教授在香港推广传媒教育。她参与联合国教科文组织传媒资讯素养 (MIL) 环球评估框架的草拟工作,是该项目的编辑及咨询委员会成员,并积极倡议传媒资讯素养教育。多年来她在香港及内地进行传媒资讯素养教育研究。在本港,李教授出任资讯科技教育督导委员会委员。
