Chan Hoi Ching Gloria (Chinese Journalism, Year 4) participated in a study program in Washington DC. During her two-week tour, she visited offices of government and media, had dialogue with Congressman Mike Coffman, Reporter Judy Crosson and representatives of NGO.
Their conversations covered the Donald Trump’s 100-day presidency, the Sino-US relations and freedom of speech.
As a journalism student, Gloria is instinctively interested in how media depicted Donald Trump during the election and why the mass media bet on the wrong horse. Some interviewees suggested that the low rate of African American voters could be one of the reasons.
During her stay in the States, Gloria was bombarded by the coverage of Trump. His tweets could sometimes make top story, especially those with typos. Through this tour, Gloria gained a better understanding of media and politics of the United States.
