The General Education Capstone course GCAP3135 Sport and Disability in the Hong Kong Chinese Media, which was jointly offered by the General Education Office, School of Communication and Department of Journalism of Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU), organized a private movie preview show of Zero to Hero at Festival Grand Cinema in Festival Walk, Kowloon Tong on 17 July 2021. Apart from carrying on the mission and goals of this course, the event aimed at arousing public awareness and calling for public support through the inspirational theme of the struggle of the Paralympic athletes.
Inspired by a true story, Zero to Hero tells the struggle of So Wa-wai, the gold medal-winning Paralympic athlete in Hong Kong, and his mother. The film teaches audiences that, even if people ‘lose at the starting line’, they can cross the finishing line to become the winner as long as they are willing to persevere.
More than one hundred audiences were invited to join this preview show, including students from various faculties/schools and staff of HKBU, current Paralympic athletes and their families and friends, the general public, etc. We are very honoured to have Ms. Sandra Ng Kwan-Yue, the producer and starring role of Zero to Hero, Mr. Jimmy Wan Chi-man, the director of the film, Mr. Fung Ho-yeung, who plays the teenage version of So Wa-wai, Mr. So Wa-wai, the gold medal-winning Paralympic athlete and the real protagonist of the film, and his mother to attend the sharing session after the screening.
All the five guests expressed their hope that this film will arouse public attention to the disability movement and let the public get to know, care for and accept the disabled.
The event was successfully held with special thanks to the great support and sponsorship of the School of Communication and General Education Office of HKBU and Tin Ka Ping Foundation. The students and Paralympic athletes who joined the event showed their appreciation after the show, saying that the movie was inspirational and touching and that the event was very successful.
